TECHNICAL PAPER · COST GUIDE · 2026 EDITION
If you are budgeting a rest zone for an airport, hospital, or campus, the first question is almost always the same: what does one sleep pod actually cost? This guide breaks down real factory-direct pricing, what drives the number up or down, and how to budget a multi-pod installation without surprises.
The short answer
Factory-direct sleeping pods from established Chinese manufacturers run $3,450 to $9,600 per unit (FOB). The LullPod line spans five models across that range: the entry Designer series starts near $3,450, the flagship Oval and Premium models sit at $6,270–$6,790, and the fully-loaded Acoustic cabin with integrated air purification tops the range at $7,860.
By comparison, European-operated brands such as napcabs or GoSleep typically price comparable hardware at two to three times these figures — partly engineering cost, partly the markup of a rental-business model rather than a direct sale.
What drives the price of a sleep pod
1. Acoustic engineering (the biggest single factor)
A pod that “feels quiet” and a pod that measures 30dB are different products. Certified soundproof construction — insulated panel cores, sealed door systems, acoustic-rated ventilation — can account for 30–40% of unit cost. Ask every supplier for a test report: the industry benchmark is airborne insulation of Rw+Ctr 30dB or better, verified by an accredited lab such as TUV Rheinland.
2. Door systems
Sliding glass doors (circular or flat) cost more than curtain or fold designs, but they deliver the privacy perception that revenue-grade rest depends on. If your business model charges by the hour, the door is not the place to save.
3. Interiors: recliner, lighting, materials
Electric recliners with massage functions, circadian LED lighting, USB/entertainment screens, and E0-grade zero-formaldehyde interiors each add measurable cost. A useful spec check: request the SGS materials report and confirm the interior passes formaldehyde and antibacterial testing.
4. Format and footprint
A standard pod (around 2.86 m × 1.3 m footprint, 1.7 m height) is the volume product and priced accordingly. Taller formats and custom widths require dedicated tooling and carry price premiums of 10–20%.
Sample budget: a 4-pod airport rest zone
| Item | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| 4 × Premium sleep pods (FOB) | ≈ $25,000–$27,000 |
| Sea freight + insurance (to EU/US port) | ≈ $1,200–$2,400 |
| Installation (self-install, 2 people × 2 h per pod) | $0 (no construction required) |
| Local electrical connection (standard outlet per pod) | site-dependent |
Because the modular design ships flat-packed and bolts together with standard tools, installation is the smallest line item — a deliberate design decision that removes builders, permits and downtime from airport projects.
How to keep procurement risk low
- Order one sample unit first (most factories, including LullPod, ship samples from 1 piece) and measure the acoustics yourself.
- Ask for test reports before payment: TUV Rheinland acoustics, SGS materials, ISO 9001 factory audit.
- Confirm the spare-parts list and warranty terms in writing — doors and recliners are the moving parts that matter over a 5-year horizon.
- For volume orders (5+ units), request tiered pricing and a factory video walkthrough before releasing the PO.
